Bringing The Inside Out

I love entertaining on my patio and with Spring right around the corner I can hardly wait to get outside. For me, my outdoor space is an extension of the interior of my home; I always want it to be comfortable and inviting.

Whatever size area you have to work with, here are a few simple tricks to add warmth and beauty to any back yard.

Designating areas is not only a good use of space but can make your patio feel more spacious.

My lounge area with two facing armless sofas are perfect for entertaining guests. In the center, a cocktail table is complete with an outdoor fire feature for evenings. Using fun pillows to accent gives a feeling of comfort and added design. Behind the sofa I used potted boxwoods to help define the area. Across from the lounge space are two chaise’s for sun or protection under the shad of an umbrella from a hot summer’s day.

The eating area is nestled with pots of flowers and herbs giving you a garden feeling while you dine.

I expanded my eating area by purchasing a large square glass top and used my old teak 60″ round table as it’s base. It has and interesting design and I love the way it shows through the glass. I can now seat twelve comfortably where only six people were possible with my old setup.

Planter boxes along the patio railings add a layer of privacy, color and beauty to the space.

Into the lower yard there are solar lanterns nestled in the trees and a hammock for those lazy summer days!
